Japanese Drip Candles

I’m not going to beat around the bush and try to wittily tell you that I didn’t like these candles, I’ll just flat out say it. I didn’t like them one bit. Let’s first start with the outside and work our way in. The packaging is nice and semi-informative, and by informative I mean it just says (on the back of course) “Great for ambiance, great for play”. When one hears “play” one can assume that it’s meant for some sort of sexual activity in one way or another. Yeah… not these suckers.

Once you get passed the plastic snap together package and the cellophane wrapping, you have three 7″ tall candles. Keeping in mind that the candles cost between $10-$15, one shouldn’t expect the highest of quality from these candles, but I expected better quality than what I got. Each candle has the same white wax center and looks like it has been dipped in a vat of a single color, and then hung to dry. Most candles that I’ve had have the color incorporated all throughout, not just one layer.

That said, when I lit a candle and waited for the wax to pool before dripping it onto my leg, I could see the color layer pulling back from the wax, and swirling into the melted wax. I didn’t think anything of it at first, and dismissed it. I then began to drip the wax onto my leg. Ouch. And yes, I’m fully aware that it wasn’t supposed to be rainbows and sunshine when hot, melted wax drips onto ones leg, but damn, it’s not supposed to burn and itch the way it did. I called it quits on dripping wax onto my leg for a bit after the first few drops and blew out the candle.

A few days later I decided to play with my girlfriend and the wax at the same time, and needless to say, she was not impressed. She said that she “would prefer an extremely hard smack with no warm-up” than to ever have to ever have to experience these candles again. I can’t say I disagree with her. All in all, I’m sorely disappointed in these candles and will be continuing my search for great dripping candles, as I know there are some out there somewhere. Thanks so much to sextoy.com for allowing me to test out the Japanese Drip Candles.
